Keeping work and personal life apart
When everything lands in the same chat, nothing feels finished. Boundaries are a privacy tool and a calm tool.
If you run a small business or work for yourself, the line between "work" and "life" can vanish. Customers text your personal number. Family messages arrive mid-meeting. It is tiring, and it mixes things that should be kept separate.
Why separation helps
- Privacy. Clients should not be able to scroll your family photos, and the reverse.
- Focus. Work can have hours. A separate space can be muted.
- Handovers. When someone leaves a team, you can end their access without touching your personal life.
- Records. Work conversations and files stay together when you need them.
How to do it without fuss
- Give work its own space and share that, not your personal number.
- Decide quiet hours and stick to them.
- Keep client files out of personal photo libraries.
- Use roles: owners and members, so access matches responsibility.
